A Facebook friend shared the quote below from Steve Jobs. It piqued my curiosity and found it’s from a speech he made at a college commencement. Steve talked about the perfection of certain events in his life, several, which were challenging but led him to do the work he does. He speaks about the lessons of our mortality and used this awareness to have the courage to follow his heart. Guess being mega rich and successful does not automatically distance the individual from using wisdom and a spiritual awareness in his everyday life.
“Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything – all external expectations, pride, fear of embarrassment or failure – these just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.” Steve Job”
‘You’ve got to find what you love,’ Jobs says
May we all have the courage to follow our heart no matter what age or where we are currently in life.
Absolutely great! Thanks for sharing that with us!!
You are welcome! 🙂 Actually with this particular post I thought of you, since you are a hospice nurse and know how death teaches us how to live.
Oh that is such a lovely wish….to following our hearts…thank you
Pocket Perspectives, It is lovely but I admit it takes courage… I followed my heart after years of not doing this, and made many life changes that shook me up, especially since I have trouble with my hearing, but led me to a good place which is where I am now. I continue to follow my heart now but to another level.. and for me it’s not about money (though if it comes to me in the billions, I’ll take it and like Oprah help others, LOL) but about unabiding inner peace. 🙂
great thought………. enjoyed reading it. 🙂
Glad you enjoyed reading this, Zahir. 🙂 Steve Jobs expressed a truth in a way that reaches people.
Steve Jobs is a smart man. I had not read that quote before – thanks for sharing 🙂
Janna, You are welcome. 🙂 I also had not read this quote before, didn’t know he was so filled with wisdom.
Sufilight…I’ve been following my heart for months with adding images/pages/booklets to the 2 blogs each day, or every few days…with the intention that maybe someday the pages and booklets might get out into a wider sphere and help others. And then, just last night, I got linked into a major weekly newsletter and the pages and youtube video/booklets have gotten 100’s of views…well, my hope continues to be that they might help and be of benefit to others…and so, still following my heart.
And getting those pages and booklets out there to the world…one of mymotivators was the idea that if my time were cut short, which hopefully it won’t be, I wanted to at least offer what I have created to others…so similar to the ideas in this post.
Have goosebumps. Just a few days ago, I was thinking, a message that one shares can suddenly take off without one really trying, just by doing what we love, and you just confirmed it. 🙂 Your Pocket Perspectives are very well done, it helps one to focus inward. I shared one in Facebook the other day. Congrats on the link and exposure you are getting!
