I am always fascinated by the potential that the power of belief can have in one’s life. I have read of cases where patients with multiple personalities will develop an illness such as gout, allergies, asthma and other illnesses under one personality and when switching to another, the second personality may not have those illnesses whatsoever. All because of the power of belief. I say the brain in this case has enormous power over our bodies based on the thoughts we feed it.
The power of belief further extends into other areas of our lives. The direction of our focus generally tends to attract energetically what we think. When we see the world as an unfriendly place, we attract experiences that support this notion.
I do not think that the “power of belief” is like an Aladdin’s lamp bringing all that we desire into our lives, as we don’t know what our destiny holds for us, but having a healthy belief system where we see life as an adventure with potential for growth and happiness no matter what age group or the conditions of our lives, allows for us to get into a space where life becomes more of a source of wonder.

The picture and the quote are so beautiful and blend together so well..
You know I have never heard about the multiple personality disorder as you have explained it. One disease, same body in yet the of the two minds only one experiences it. Now that’s just incredible. It’s actually true whatever we believe becomes our reality. Am thoroughly fascinated by the magic of belief..reading this made me feel really good 😀

Veeh, Thanks! 🙂 Think of hypnosis how a person can be hypnotized and made to believe that a cigarette is burning his skin and a blister develops. It’s amazing! And awesome because it gives tangible proof that the mind is powerful and we can use to our advantage.

I especially like the way you summed this up in the last sentence, Marie:
“…where we see life as an adventure with potential for growth and happiness no matter what age group or the conditions of our lives, allows for us to get into a space where life becomes more of a source of wonder.” Thank you, and have a wonderful day!

Marie, your ideas are so insightful and helpful…and I’m with Janet on that last sentence….that is a very, very special thought!…can I put it on a card and add it into that “creating a good outcome” post?…it’s such a helpful thought and reminder…

This is a wonderful post, Marie!
I had forgotten that about multiple personality disorders . . . but it’s GREAT evidence to substantiate the power of POSITIVE thinking.

Nancy, Exactly! I heard that their eye color even changes, but couldn’t find reliable Google data, so don’t know if it’s true or not, reason why I didn’t mention this in my post.

I really agree with you, Marie, and think you’ve said it so well…what we think and believe does indeed affect our very health! I have so many friends with chronic illness, and the way each responds to treatments and move in and out of remission seems to be so closely tied to what they believe about their condition. It’s difficult to watch some really struggle as they fight against the tide, rather than simply concentrate on wellness. Others share openly how they only spend time on the things in life which nourish and feed their souls…and in turn, they seem to thrive even under some very difficult conditions. Belief is so powerful! Great, encouraging post! Debra

Debra, I am doing just that nourishing my soul by focusing on that which uplifts me or makes me smile as I work on healing the effects of the hearing loss I had earlier this month. What many people do not realize is that our thoughts affect the brain’s chemistry, and the agitated ones are not going to support wholeness. Thanks for your comments!
