Silence is the mother of truth. – Benjamin Disraeli
I resonate with Disraeli’s words. When we are able to stop the mental spinning with thoughts about a situation, from the space of a calm mind we may get an intuitive “aha” moment that often gives us greater clarity. Also, a mind that is still/calm is receptive to spiritual truths. It is one of the reasons spiritual teachers encourage meditation, and why I often meditate. I have a very busy mind and I am learning to get quieter.
Isn’t it a wonderful feeling to have the mind quiet down?…ahhhh…silence…and oh for clarity. My mind has been stirred up for a few days…I’m hoping it settles soon…
Kathy, When my s/o and I have deep spiritual chats that are hard to grasp with the mind, I have learned to keep my mind still while listening, and by doing that it’s amazing how clarity often shows up. A still mind works wonders.
Perhaps loss of hearing was a spiritual hint at quietness–
Janet, The hearing loss is a huge message for me and I think it has to do with fear- because I lost it while I was struggling with fearful feelings while in the van with my mate, so in essence it is indeed a hint at quietness.
I know the difference when I have a busy mind versus a quiet mind! Isn’t it funny how we can have a quiet mind in the middle of noise, and a noisy mind in a room full of silence! I have to continually remind myself to get still and I find that my yoga practice really helps me, because I can’t do the poses when my mind is too busy! I love the way you give us such calming reminders, Marie. I really do. Debra
That’s great that you practice Yoga and that you are forced to be quiet while doing the poses. I really think when we meditate or do Yoga we also are giving our bodies a break from the stress the mind can give the body. Thanks for your comments!
