“How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak. Because someday in your life you will have been all of these” ~ George Washington Carver

Every day I become more aware that love is the essence of all of life, and it’s not only an emotion but (quoting Dr. David Hawkins) “a state of awareness, a way of being in the world, a way of seeing oneself and others.”

Awareness is our true self; it’s what we are. So we don’t have to try to develop awareness; we simply need to notice how we block awareness with our thoughts, our fantasies, our opinions, and our judgments. We’re either in awareness, which is our natural state, or we’re doing something else. – Joko Beck

How simple. For decades,  I tried to acquire Awareness, when all the time I  have been this awareness, but became distracted  by the entertainment and fear of the mind.  My eyes would get misty with longing when I would read of the awakening of Eckhart Tolle,  Byron Katie, Papaji and various other sages, and the permanent freedom they experienced from the limitations of living inside the movie projector of the mind.

Moment by moment, I am learning to be more observant of myself and how I create my own limitations and freedom.  It doesn’t require deep thinking to get into observer mode so I may experience my true self –  words can get in the way, it requires a silent observation which leads one back to the holy foundation of Self.

Silence is the mother of truth. – Benjamin Disraeli

I resonate with Disraeli’s words.  When we are able to stop the mental spinning with thoughts about a situation, from the space of a calm mind we may get an intuitive “aha” moment that often gives us greater clarity. Also, a mind that is still/calm is receptive to spiritual truths.  It is one of the reasons spiritual teachers encourage meditation, and why I often meditate. I have a very busy mind and I am learning to get quieter.

Spontaneous Life Changes

“Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them – that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.” Lao Tzu

I have found that the minute I let go of resistance – courage and clarity takes place. The choices that I need to make for the resolution of a challenge starts to become more apparent. Sometimes, the solution is to do nothing, but to allow for an internal emotional and spiritual shift to take place so life can be enjoyed.

Dalai Lama, nature's balance, simplicity, simplifying life

There is a saying in Tibetan that “at the door of the miserable rich man sleeps the contented beggar.” The point of this saying is not that poverty is a virtue, but that happiness does not come from wealth, but from setting limits to one’s desires, and living within those limits with satisfaction. – His Holiness The Dalai Lama

I like the wisdom of this message as it can apply to varied desires, including how much we take from the Earth.  Early this week I watched “I AM” by Tom Shydyac, the millionaire producer who lives in mobile home in Oprah’s cable channel, OWN.  It was discussed how nature takes only what it needs to sustain itself so nature stays balanced; it’s mankind that has learned to take more than it needs and therefore creates an imbalance that affects the collective.

When my significant other and I feed the squirrels at the park, we notice how they take the peanuts we give them, enjoy them, and when full, bury the remaining peanuts for the winter. Humans generally would eat/take more than their share because we have been conditioned to think that more is better.

“Who could be so lucky? Who comes to a lake for water and sees the reflection of moon.” Rumi

Everyday, I am reminded that a simple life can be fulfilling and  the richer we seem to be. And this is the way my mate and I live our lives, without too many needs and the stress of paying and maintaining possesions. We thrive with the beauty of nature, enjoy the simple pleasures of life and experience many moments of happiness.

We don’t push prosperity away as we own a business, but we don’t feel conflicted about a lack of anything – that is unless we suddenly desire a mansion with a landing strip on the roof for our small plane. 🙂

Sweeter Dance with Life

I  found that when I resisted life – my intuition and clarity  became obscured and I made errors in judgment. I also seemed to attract more negativity into my space. But, when I learned new moves with the dance of life and had the understanding that there are certain things in life we cannot control, that the tapestry of life is infinite,  that the dual nature of life brings us joy and sorrow, dark and light – a quiet surrender took place and the light of clarity shined on the darker corners of my life.

Surrender does not mean giving up, not doing anything about what we wish to change; it means surrendering our internal conflict; from this place of stillness, we either take action in the outward world, or continue to look within and work on releasing internally that which is blocking us.

Embracing all of life and learning to flow with it,  has given me a  sweeter dance with life. May your dance also be sweet.

Change is always taking place in our lives; our bodies are constantly changing, such as having a new liver every 6 weeks, (amazing! isn’t it?) but when a dramatic change takes place such as the loss of a job or a loved one, often the way is being paved for a different you.  Life is all about experiences for our growth, many of which we don’t really have control over. We can kick or scream, but resistance  pulls us deeper into unconsciousness; we miss the opportunity of transcending our challenges and aligning ourselves with the  perfect movement of life.

It is in getting out of the way that a Higher Intelligence can more easily express through us and direct our path.

***Post Note: This is an entry I wrote for a new WordPress blog I am creating. I purchased a domain so I have more flexibility. It’s not yet published, I am just adding content for now while I figure the technical aspect of the site with my mate’s help. 🙂 I will also keep blogging in “Love is the Answer.”

“Forgiveness is not a moral issue.
It is an energy dynamic…
Forgiveness means that you do not carry the baggage of an experience.
When you choose not to forgive,
the experience that you do not forgive sticks with you.
When you choose not to forgive,
it is like agreeing to wear dark, gruesome sunglasses that distort everything,
and it is you who are forced every day
to look at life through those contaminated lenses
because you have chosen to keep them.”

Gary Zukav from “The Seat Of The Soul”

“Everything that lives, lives not alone, not for itself.” – William Blake (1757-1827)

If I were told that there is not a real purpose to life, I would say, we are here to somehow add to the love and balance of the world. All of nature is solitary, yet interconnected; we weave a web that affects one another in perfect symmetry, even if our mind may tell us otherwise. If I but touch another person’s life through my actions or words, or add to the collective consciousness by my evolution, I have fulfilled my purpose, whether I am aware of it or not.

Mother Theresa’s words resonate with me. I realized at one point in my life that no matter what is going on with the world or if we encounter human beings in the journey of our life who may try to suppress the inner spark that we have because of their own internal struggles, the best is to move on and keep on shining the beauty of our spirit.  I found it always comes back in the form of grace.
